Functional Vision Assessment
This type of vision assessment helps us see how people use their vision and what visual skills they need to develop. We assess how well a child or adult uses vision to perform routine activities in different places and with different materials throughout the day.
Cortical Visual Impairment
In addition to assessing the functional ocular vision of a child or adult with cerebral visual impairment, an assessment is made of the different characteristics of visual behaviors of those who have suffered some type of injury to the visual pathways in their brain.
Training and Consult to Parents and/or Caregivers
With the results obtained from the functional vision and CVI assessments, an educational plan is developed according to the child’s needs. This plan includes Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) activities for which I provide training to parents and/or caregivers to support their child or adult in developing their visual skills.
Consultation and Training for Teachers and Specialists
I work with various education professionals, as well as with the different specialists who provide therapy services to children and adults, designing individual educational plans and helping them understand how their vision works, so that they can work on the objectives designed for each child.
Orientation and Mobility Assessments
I assess the ability of a visually impaired child to navigate indoor and outdoor environments at home, school, and unfamiliar places. Training is given to help them navigate with a white cane and move independently in any environment. Life skills training is provided as well.
Assistive Technology Assessment
Assessment of the knowledge and use of assistive technology, considering the necessary skills and determining possible solutions that it can bring to the different areas in the life of a child with visual disabilities. This type of technology can help children meet demands in the educational area, as well as in every environment of their daily life.
